Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) are designed and launched by UN Women and the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) in 2010 after rigorous consultations with key stakeholders. The adoption and implementation of the WEPs offer guidance on agreed standards for companies to empower women in the workplace, marketplace and community, and offer an established platform to scale up corporate action towards the SDGs: Responsible business and investment – rooted in internationally accepted principles including gender equality – will be critical to achieving the SDGs, including Goal 5 and gender-specific targets across the SDGs.

Panel Objectives: to raising awareness about the WEPs among all participants and encourage more companies in the Balkans and Black Sea region to sign onto the WEPs. The Panel will showcase private and public organizations and private sector companies that advance gender equality and women’s empowerment at the workplace, marketplace and communities by incorporating best practices and policies.

To date the 363 WEPs signatories in the Balkans and Black Sea region are as following:
